In and on the water: Children's fun and safety go hand-in-hand
For children of every age, playing and running at and in the pool, as well as swimming and diving, are great fun.
To make sure that children – especially younger children who cannot swim yet – are always safe at the pool, several guidelines must be followed.
- Never leave your children unattended in or near the water.
- Children who cannot swim should always wear floatation aids like vests or arm-floaties at or in the pool.
- Playing and swimming in the pool takes power and concentration. Make sure that your children take enough breaks outside of the pool.
- Don't let children go into the water right after eating a meal. Wait at least 60 minutes.
- As a preventative measure, you should make your children aware of safety in and out of the water as early as possible.
- When there are more people at the pool, relying on others increases and attention to oneself decreases.
- Always cover your pool with rollable covers, or with stable membranes that reach over the edges of the pool whenever it is not being attended.
- Even pool owners who do not have their own small children still bear responsibility for others: If a child who has come onto your property in the course of playing or out of curiosity comes to harm at or in your pool, you are liable for damages. That is why keeping your pool covered is always the safer option – not to mention the reduction of operating costs.
You should always be cautious and responsible. By keeping in mind the above guidelines, as well as taking your own individual safety measures, there is nothing in the way of children having fun at and in the pool.
